this is the only thing I found to help me, take large cabbage leaves and heat them in the microwave until warm but not hot and place them on your breast while you are lying down and cover them with a wash cloth to hold the heat in and keep this on until the cabbage leaves cool. try this several times a day. It only took about 2 days for me to quit hurting altogether. Hope this helps.

yes hun i know how you feel, when i had my kids i did not breast feed ewwwww too sore, i couldnt lie on my back as they were too heavy my side as they were more sore the only way you can relieve them is bathe them in a warm bathe its only for a few days hun but ewwwwwww i know how you feel you just need to grin and bear it :)

oh my dont squeeze your nipples or do anything to make the milk come out! you’ll only produce more and hurt more! some of the ladies above recommend cabbage leaves…and so do i! cabbage leave in your bra. there cold so it will feel good on your who-haa’s…and it surprisingly dries the milk up pretty quick! good luck…and dont stimulate your nipples!

  4. Smitty says:

This will have to pass on it’s own, but I do think if you pump the milk it may soften the milk ducts. I don’t remember the hardened breast lasting long after childbirth.

Yes I have herd that cabbage leaves will help also take ginger tablets they can help to dry up milk. But what ever you do dont express or squeeze out any as it will only make you produce more.

  6. whomeohn says:

you have to squeeze it out or pump but the breast gets hard because the milk has to be expressed somehow whether the baby or just plain taking a hot shower and squeezing it out

  7. Melissa In NC says:

    i agree with Charlene,
Cabbage leaves dried me out within 3 days

  8. Megan says:

I have an 11week old boy and when he was about 4 or 5 days old (when my milk was coming in) my breasts did the same thing as you are describing as I didn’t breast feed. I got 2 face washers, wet them and then squeezed the excess water out of them, put them in the freezer until they were just about frozen. Then I wrapped them around my bare breasts. It sounds stupid and looks pretty weird but my god, it saved me!!
It only lasts a day or two so hang in there. Try this method to help, it cant hurt. I hope it works as well for you as it did for me.

Don’t pump! If you releave the milk from your breast it will only come back and you will have to start over. My first 2 kids I didn’t breast feed and had the same problem you are having (terrible pain, extremely hard breast). You just gotta keep pressure (the sports bra) applied and deal with the pain. I know it’s terrible. I didn’t take a shower for the 3 days it took for my milk to dry up. I know it sounds nasty… but if you shower the warm water will make your breast leak and you need them to not leak.
